Sebaceous Hyperplasia

Get your gleam on...

‌Sebaceous hyperplasia is a skin condition where our oil glands produce too much oil. When this happens, the oils can be trapped under our skin and cause bumps. The oil produced by our oil glands is called sebum that normally protects our skin from the outside environment and prevents it from drying out. When these oil glands become overactive, oils can be trapped inside them causing it to form lumps under the skin. Fortunately, this condition is harmless, commonly appearing on the forehead, cheeks, and back, and gets more common with age. There is currently no cure to prevent the formation of sebaceous hyperplasia, but a cryotherapy procedure can be used to remove them.
